Amid the ongoing BRICS summit 2024, a video collage is doing rounds on x showing Chinese President Xi Jinping and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel ignoring Prime Minister Modi’s handshake.
An account with username @TheIncNews posted this video on X and wrote: “Xi Jinping avoided shaking hands with Modi ji – Breaking News
Such insult to Modiji is unbearable.
Bhakts, do something. At least start a war in the media.”

Fact-check
The dfrac team investigated the above shared video collage. A reverse image search of video collage ‘s keyframes led us to YouTube where we found the extended version of both of the videos.
The first video clip, dated May 30, 2017, is available on The Tribune YouTube channel and shows Angela Merkel warmly shaking hands with PM Modi towards the end of the video.
Whereas, the second video clip is from the recent BRICS summit in 2024, featuring the same handshake gesture between the two leaders.
Not only this, but as per recent reports, PM Modi holds a bilateral meeting with xi jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit 2024 in Kazan, Russia.
The meeting highlighted the u-turn in the India-China diplomatic ties following a consensus on patrolling arrangements along the LAC that had faced several disturbances over the last few years.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s factcheck that the video collage has been misleadingly shared on X. In reality, PM Modi received a warm handshake from German Chancellor Angela Merkel during his 2017 visit to Berlin and from the Chinese president at the BRICS summit in 2024.
