On social media, a video of buses on fire has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “Do you know where this video is from? This is a video from Tel Aviv… And the artist of this art is Yemen”.(English Translation)
Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found multiple media reports regarding this video. According to ‘JPost’ published on 11 June, 2022 “Some 18 buses caught fire at the Central Bus Station in the city of Safed in the Northern District of Israel”.
Moreover, we also found a report from ‘TimesofIsrael’ published on 11 June 2022 mentioning “Eighteen buses were destroyed when they were torched in the northern city of Safed, in a suspected attack linked to criminal demands for the payment of protection money. A number of other vehicles were damaged in the attack at the central bus station. There were no injuries”.
Furthermore, we found a similar video on the YouTube channel of ‘Al Mayadeen’ uploaded on 11 June, 2022 titled “Scenes of the fire from inside the occupied Galilee – Israeli media”.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is from the Safed Northern district of Israel and dates back to 2022, not from Tel Aviv. Therefore, the claim of social media users claim is misleading.
