Fact Check: An old video from Rafah falsely linked with Iran-Israel conflict. Here’s the truth

On social media, video of massive destruction has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “Iran has successfully destroyed 30 Israeli F-35 fighter jets. These jets were used to massacre 40,000 children”.(English Translation)

Fact Check

During the investigation, DFRAC found the viral video was from Rafah. We found a video on X handle of OnlinePalEng tweeted on 12 Feb 2024 with caption “Footage showing the massive destruction that Israeli forces inflicted on the so-called ‘safe zone’ of Al-Shaboura camp in Rafah”.

Furthermore, we also found a similar video on X handle of timand2037 posted on 13 Feb, 2024 with the caption, “The aftermath of last night’s Israeli bombing of the refugee camp in #Rafah. A direct hit with rockets on the tents where the refugee children are housed. Children were massacred as they slept and their body parts scattered.”

Moreover, we also found a media report from ‘entesaf’ published on 12 Feb, 2024 stating, “Footage showing the massive destruction that Israeli forces inflicted on the so-called ‘safe zone’ of Al-Shaboura camp in Rafah.”

Conclusion

It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video was from Rafah, not from Iran-Israel conflicts. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
