Fact Check: An old video from Rafah falsely linked with Iran-Israel conflict. Here’s the truth

On social media, video of massive destruction has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “Iran has successfully destroyed 30 Israeli F-35 fighter jets. These jets were used to massacre 40,000 children”.(English Translation)

Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here

Fact Check

During the investigation, DFRAC found the viral video was from Rafah. We found a video on X handle of OnlinePalEng tweeted on 12 Feb 2024 with caption “Footage showing the massive destruction that Israeli forces inflicted on the so-called ‘safe zone’ of Al-Shaboura camp in Rafah”.

Furthermore, we also found a similar video on X handle of timand2037 posted on 13 Feb, 2024 with the caption, “The aftermath of last night’s Israeli bombing of the refugee camp in #Rafah. A direct hit with rockets on the tents where the refugee children are housed. Children were massacred as they slept and their body parts scattered.”

Moreover, we also found a media report from ‘entesaf’ published on 12 Feb, 2024 stating, “Footage showing the massive destruction that Israeli forces inflicted on the so-called ‘safe zone’ of Al-Shaboura camp in Rafah.”

Conclusion

It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video was from Rafah, not from Iran-Israel conflicts. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.

Fact Check: No, Pakistan’s J-10C Did Not Shoot Down an Indian Rafale Over the LoC Dramatic silhouette of a Chinese-made J-10C fighter jet in mid-flight against a vivid sunset sky, with its afterburner trail illuminated in the twilight. The image was featured in a viral social media post by a Pakistani defense account, falsely claiming that the aircraft had successfully shot down an Indian Rafale jet during an aerial encounter over the Line of Control (LoC). The claim was later fact-checked and debunked by Indian authorities as misinformation.
