The first phase of Legislative Assembly Elections 2024 was held on Wednesday, September 18, across seven districts in Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit was scheduled to take place Sept 19, 2024. Ahead of PM Modi’s visit to Kashmir valley, a pak-based handle took to social media platform X(formerly Twitter) & claimed that Inspector General V K Birdi confirmed a multi-tier security setup for Modi’s visit, while Srinagar residents faced heavy restrictions. This wasn’t security; it was a suppression.
Posting an image of security personnel, an account named Hello Pakistan wrote: “Inspector General V K Birdi confirms a multi-tier security setup for Modi’s visit, while Srinagar residents face heavy restrictions. This isn’t security; it’s suppression”
Fact-Check
To verify the authenticity of the above-shared claim, the DFRAC team searched some keywords on Google in this regard. We discovered some of the latest reports from Kashmir Observer, Republic World & Kashmir Life.
As per reports, a traffic advisory has been issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, ahead of the PM’s visit, to prevent congestion & help locals. Apart from routes closed and diversions, the traffic advisory also mentioned certain parking spots for vehicles because parking on the roadside is not allowed. While emergency vehicles will be permitted to take the shortest route, wrongly parked vehicles will be towed by the police.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the multi-tier security setup amid PM Modi’s visit is not any kind of restriction or suppression to Srinagar residents. The traffic advisory has been issued to ensure smooth movement and help residents in the Kashmir valley.
