Fact Check

In India, religious tensions among different communities, particularly Hindus, Christians, and Dalits, are often a sensitive issue. These tensions are frequently fueled by misinformation or exaggerated claims on social media, which can lead to misunderstanding, mistrust, and even violence.

To verify the authenticity of the claim, DFRAC conducted a reverse google search and we found a media report by Moolnayak that was issued on July 6th, 2022 and we found that the incident shown in the video was not related to religious conversion at all. Instead, it stemmed from a personal dispute involving a Dalit youth named B Naresh from Chilmamidi village,Telangana. Naresh was reportedly involved in a relationship with a woman from a different community, which had been a source of contention in the village.

After multiple warnings to both parties to stay away from each other, tensions escalated when Naresh and the woman were caught together in a compromising situation. And then the man can be seen getting brutally hit by the villagers.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that the claim that Hindus attacked a man for converting to Christianity is misleading. The video shows a violent altercation arising from a personal dispute, not a religiously motivated attack. Hence the viral claim is false.

The image was featured in a viral social media post by a Pakistani defense account, falsely claiming that the aircraft had successfully shot down an Indian Rafale jet during an aerial encounter over the Line of Control (LoC).
