A video of a group of boys is going viral on social media. While sharing this video users claim that “Jodhpur: “Jethu Singh” sleeping in JNVU hostel was brutally beaten by 4 boys, the attacking group is Om Singh. Some people are linking this incident to Vinesh Phogat. A screenshot is also going viral… But the truth is that this is democracy!”.
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found many media reports regarding this video. According to ETV Bharat’s report, “a horrific video of a beating has emerged from a hostel of Jai Narayan Vyas University in Jodhpur. In a fight between two groups of alumni, some youths of one group beat up a youth of the other group”.
Furthermore, ETV Bharatvarsh also published a report stating “Jai Narayan University of Jodhpur is one of the biggest universities in western Rajasthan. The hostel whose video of the fight is going viral is hostel number three of the university. Due to the neglect of Jai Narayan University, it has become a hangout of not only the students but also the alumni of the university”
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that there was a clash between two groups of alumni in the number three hostel of JNVU and the video is unrelated to Vinesh Phogat. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
