Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found that this video is from Jan 2017. We found this video on the Official X account of Virat Kohli uploaded on 6 Jan 2017 with the caption “This country should be safe & equal for all. Women shouldn’t be treated differently. Let’s stand together & put an end to such pathetic acts”.
Furthermore, we also found a report from NDTV published on 6 Jan 2017 stating “Expressing his anguish at the mass molestation incident in Bengaluru on New Year’s eve, Indian batting talisman Virat Kohli on Friday took to Twitter to condemn the perpetrators of the act, as well as the people who watched over the incident without reacting”.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that this video is from 2017 and Virat Kohli is talking about the Bengaluru molestation, not of the recent Kolkata case. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
