News has recently surfaced on social media platform X(Twitter) claiming that the Ben Gurion International Airport Website has stopped receiving requests. It has closed now. Many flights have been canceled as well. The news has been fiercely shared by several users on X.
An account with the username @stairwayto3dom posted an image and wrote: “#BREAKING Ben Gurion International Airport Website has stopped receiving requests, it is now closed. Many flights have been cancelled as well”
Moreover, many users shared this news stating similar facts.
Fact-Check
To investigate the authenticity of the viral news, the DFRAC team visited the official website of the airport and found that it was functioning properly.
For further investigation, we conducted a keyword search in this regard and found a report published by Anadolu Agency on Aug 3, 2024. As per this report, the official website of the airport suffered a temporary malfunction on Friday, Aug 2. The Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper cited a source at the airport who said flights through the airport are still on schedule.
Furthermore, the report stated that Israeli social media activists pointed to the possibility of a cyber attack that caused the disruption.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral news has been misleadingly shared on X. In reality, the website went down Friday because of a temporary malfunction.
