Amid the news of recent block raids in Dhaka, a claim has recently surfaced on social media asserting the involvement of two Brigadiers, General S. M. Zakaria Hossain & General Imran Hamid in the ongoing operation in the capital of Bangladesh
Journalist Sami posted the images of two generals on X and wrote: “we have received various footages showing these arrests taking place in front of military personnel. Members of the 14 Independent Engineers Brigade and the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade are participating in the ongoing operation in the capital of Bangladesh. The commanders of these two brigades are BA 4638 Brigadier General S. M. Zakaria Hossain and BA 4897 Brigadier General Imran Hamid respectively” (An excerpt from his post)
Another account named Revolt also shared the same images and made similar claims.
Moreover, the same claim was shared on Facebook in Bengali Language
Fact-Check
Initiating the fact-check process, the DFRAC team thoroughly examined the latest reports from multiple media outlets such as ProthomAlo, Jagonews24, & Rtvonline. The names of two Brigadiers have not appeared in any media report. Moreover, no involvement of any brigadier has been stated in any report.
As per reports, law enforcement forces have arrested thousands of people for their involvement in arson and vandalism regarding the quota reform movement. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has admitted the arrest of several people in the last few days in this ‘block raid’ operation
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim alleging the involvement of two brigadier generals is misleading since no such names have appeared in the latest reports related to block raids in the different parts of Dhaka
