False claim of attack in Kuki area by disguised police and stolen weapons shared

Manipur is still suffering from ethnic clashes. Admist this multiple false claims are being shared on internet to incite hatred among ethnic groups. Surrounding a video has gone viral showcasing the firing of Bullets is shared and claims that Meitei people are disguised as Manipur state police and are attacking Kuki’s with stolen weapons from security personnel.

DFRAC Team investigated the viral claim. On investigation, we landed on Manipur Police official twitter handle. There we found the official clarification on the video. Manipur police stated that the men the video are Manipur Police personnels taking refuge in BP vehicle and firing back at militants who ambushed SFs on 14/7/2024 in Jiribam District.
