Jammu and Kashmir recently was struck with an earthquake on 12 July 2024. Fortunately no casualities have been reported. However, cross border misinformation via Pakistani media and X handles shared an unsubstantiated claim stating, “Shutdown to be observed in kashmir on 13 July to mark Kashmir Martyrs’ Day”.
Furthermore, the news was shared by Kashmir media Servive, which have been previously identified as Bad source of information about Kashmir from Pakistan.
Fact Check
DFRAC team investigated the viral claim. During the process, we found no media reports have mentioned about observation of shutdown in Kashmir on 13 July neither any official state order has been issued. DFRAC team had a word with Farooq Ganderbali (@farooqgbly) President voice for Peace and Justice, youth organisation of J&K who informed, “No shutdown is observed in Kashmir.
