Was PM Modi not received by Russian Prez Putin during his recent visit to Moscow ?
After PM Modi’s visit to Moscow, a claim has recently emerged on social media platform X alleging that Russian President Putin did not come to the airport to receive PM Modi. However, he received Chinese President Xi Jinping during his last visit to Russia. The claim was shared by many users on X.
Taking to X, Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy quote-requoted TOI’s post carrying the video of PM Modi welcomed by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and wrote: “Putin did not come to the airport to receive Modi? Putin had received Xi”
Additionally, a pak-based handle with username @Pak1stTeam shared a video and made a similar claim.
Fact-Check
To determine the reality of this claim, the DFRAC conducted a keyword search in this regard and found the latest report by Times of India citing that PM Modi was received at the airport by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who is senior to the Deputy Prime Minister received Chinese President Xi Jinping during his recent visit to Russia.
In addition, we found an article by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China dated March 20, 2023, stating that President Xi Jinping visited Russia at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. As President Xi Jinping stepped out of plane, he was warmly greeted by Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Chernyshenko & other senior Russian officials by the ramp.
A video available on the YouTube account of CCTV also endorsed this news.
Moreover, recent news articles from Business Standard, The Economic Times and India Today reported that PM Modi received the Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, Russia’s most prestigious civilian honor from President Vladimir Putin for enhancing the bilateral relations between India & Russia.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim alleging that Russian President Putin received Chinese President Xi Jinping during his last visit to Russia is misleading since Chinese Prez Xi Jinping was received by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, not by Russian Prez Putin during his last visit.
Therefore, the claim made by Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy andpak-based handle is false.
