On social media, a video of a young man and a young woman went viral. While sharing the video users claimed that a Rohit from Brahmin Caste beat Aarti Yadav from OBC category so brutally with Iron rod that she died.

On Investigation, DFRAC found some media reports regarding the above viral video. According to News 18 India, “Many layers of Aarti Yadav’s murder case in the Vasai city of Maharashtra are now being revealed. why did Rohit Yadav murder Aarti so brutally? What was the reason behind Rohit’s brutality? Would Aarti’s life have been saved had the police taken serious action on Aarti’s complaint on Sunday? CCTV footage of the Vasai murder case has surfaced in which the accused Rohit Yadav is attacking Aarti with a wrench and during this time many people are making a video of the incident instead of stopping the accused. According to the Vasai police, Aarti Yadav and Rohit Yadav had an affair for three years.” (English Translation).
Furthermore, Zee Salam also uploaded this report “In Maharashtra’s Palghar, 20-year-old Aarti Yadav was killed by her crazy boyfriend Rohit Yadav by hitting her with an iron rod. The boy attacked her 15 times in 30 seconds. The surprising thing is that the man kept hitting the girl in the middle of the road, but no one there tried to save the girl, currently, the accused is in police custody.”(English Translation).
Conclusion:
It is evident from the DFRAC fact check that Aarti Yadav was murdered by her boyfriend Rohit Yadav both belong to the same community and there is no caste angle in the incident. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
