2022 image falsely shared with attack on Indian Convoy in Manipur

An image of a vehicle under damaged condition is making waves on social media site X(Twitter) with the news that the Indian Army convoy has attacked in Manipur in which 6 soldiers have been confirmed dead. The Image has been shared by several users on X with similar news.

Ironclad, known for spreading misinformation on X, has shared this image and claimed: “#BREAKING Big attack on Indian Army convoy in Manipur, 06 soldiers confirmed dead”

Fact-Check:

To verify the veracity of the viral news, the DFRAC team conducted a keyword search in this regard and found that no media reports have been published in the support of the above viral news.

For further investigation, we reverse-searched the shared image on google and discovered a report by Sanjha Morcha  published in October 2022.

The report featured a similar image along with other images and stated that 3 vehicles of Indian Army Convoy came under heavy landslide while going from Ladakh to Second Glacier in the morning, in which 6 Army personnel were martyred.

Moreover, another report from Himalayan Express cited similar facts pertaining to the viral image.

Apparently, the news of Indian Army convoy being attacked in Manipur resulting in the death of  6 soldiers is false. However, during our investigation, we found the recent news of Manipur CM Biren Singh’s advanced convoy being attacked has catapulted the headlines in the mainstream media.

Source: Business Today, India Today and The Economic Times

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the old image has been misleadingly shared with the false news of Indian Army convoy being attacked in Manipur. Originally, the image was from 2022 and depicted one of the three vehicles of the Indian Army Convoy which have come under heavy landslide which claimed the lives of  6 Army personnel
