An image showing Pakistan’s flag on the clock tower at Lal Chowk, Srinagar in Kashmir has recently surfaced on social media site X (formerly Twitter) indicating that this is the latest event from Kashmir.
Taking to X, an account with the username @PSYWAROPS, which sustains a history of spreading misinformation on X, has shared this image on X with the caption: “Lal Chowk, Srinagar, Kashmir, Pak!stan”
Fact-Check
A reverse-image search of the recently surfaced image led us to the website Getty Images where we found the same image uploaded in Sept 2010. As per the image’s description, protestors hoisted a flag onto a clock tower in Srinagar on the festival of Eid al-Fitr.
Moreover, media outlets such as India Today and Livemint reported that the historic clock tower at Lal Chowk, Srinagar was decorated and illuminated with Tri-Colour on the eve of India’s 75th Republic Day.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the image does not show the latest events from Kashmir. Originally, it was from 2010 when protestors hoisted the flag on Clock Tower at Lal Chowk in Srinagar during the festival of Eid Al-Fitr in 2010.
