A claim has recently surfaced on social media site X(Twitter) stating that India used White Phosphorus in Kashmir to secure their victory. TRF (The Resistance Front) group claimed that one of the Individuals was killed by using white Phosphorus.
Taking to X, an account with the username @btsforpalestine wrote: ”INDIA USED WHITE PHOSPHORUS ON KASHMIR THEY FOUND THE VICTIMS BODIES CHARRED DUE TO THE PHOSPHORUS”
The account shared an Image as well. The image’s text read: “TRF (The Resistance Front)- the group which 2 of the rebel fighters killed belonged to- have claimed that the third individual killed by white phosphorus was an unarmed civilian”
Fact-Check
To investigate this claim, the DFRAC team searched some Keywords on google and found that as per the CCW (Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons) under Protocol III, White Phosphorus is classified as an incendiary weapon which is prohibited in all circumstances to make any military objective located within a concentration of civilians the object of attack by air-delivered incendiary weapons.
Moreover, there is no such evidence available proving that the Indian army used White Phosphorus to secure their victory. Notably, TRF (The Resistance Front ) has been declared a terrorist organization by Ministry of Home Affairs .
Upon investigating further, we found some reports by CNBC and India Today. According to a report by CNBC from March 2024, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a tourism boom post-COVID, and after the abrogation of Article 370.
In addition, India Today‘s report from 2023 reported that Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh asserted: “We are very close to realizing the terror-free Jammu and Kashmir”.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the claim stating that India used White Phosphorus in Kashmir to secure their victory is completely fake as no such evidences have been found in this regard.
