A video is going viral on social media site X (formerly Twitter) showing two individuals confronting some Indian Army officials. Users on X are sharing this video and claiming that Indian army soldiers were forced to vote for BJP and Modi.
Sharing this video on X, an account named Ironclad wrote: “According to credible reports, Indian army soldiers were forced to vote for BJP and Modi. Those who disagreed were immediately transferred to the Agniveer scheme with no pension benefits. The truth behind the world’s largest democracy”
Following Ironclad, numerous users shared this video on X and made similar claims.
Fact-Check
Using the keyframes generated from the viral video, the DFRAC team found that the video is from 2019 as per the Times of India’s report. The video shows some soldiers heading towards a polling station in Jabalpur, MP to cast their vote on April 29, 2019, where unidentified miscreants tried to snatch the voter IDs of soldiers & family members.
Furthermore, we discovered a post by news agency ANI stating that Army officials in Jabalpur filed a complaint on May 1, 2019, against them for obstructing Army voters posted in Cantonment and circulating videos to malign the Army image.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC‘s fact-check that the viral video from 2019 has been falsely attributed to Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Moreover, a complaint has also been filed for obstructing the army voters and maligning the image of the Indian Army.
