Protests in Jallianwala Bagh against EVM? Read the reality

A video is going viral, where a huge crowd can be seen collected all together. Sharing the video, users are claiming that a huge protest started in Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab, against using EVMs in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

An Instagram user named ek_bhimsainik_07 shared the video with the caption, ” A public protest is taking place against EVM in Jallianwala Bagh, Punjab.”

Twitter users have also shared the video with a similar claim.

Fact Check

To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search of the video frames. During the investigation, we found the matching video on YouTube

shorts, dated Feb 2, 2024.

Using the same keywords, we investigated the claim further and found multiple media reports that mentioned the reality of the event. We found that the video is of Gavas Shant Mahayagya held in Himachal Pradesh in January 2024. The Mahayagya was held after 38 years in the village. This yagya, which lasted for three days, was performed for God Gudaru Maharaj. Thousands of people had come to this ceremony to offer prayers.

Conclusion

Thus, it is clear from the fact check that the video is not about protests in Punjab for EVM. It’s from Himachal Pradesh’s  Mahayagya held in Jan 2024
