A video has recently surfaced on social media platforms showing a man severely thrashed by two men while a burqa-clad woman trying to save him. Users are fiercely sharing this video and claiming that a Muslim family was beaten in India.

User Sulaiman Ahmed, a fake news peddler under the guise of an investigative journalist shared this video and claimed: “MUSLIM FAMILY BEATEN IN INDIA”

Furthermore, an account named ‘The Saviour’ which has been found sharing false news and misinformation multiple times, also shared this video and made a similar claim.

Fact-Check

To determine the reality of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted this video into some Keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. We found a press brief note on the X handle of Siddhartnagar police from 2020 stating that both, the victims & culprits seen in the viral video belong to the same community who were fighting over a dispute related to their children.

In addition, we discovered a statement byte of 2020, given by a Police official in the context of a viral video narrating that a case had been registered in this regard. Moreover, 3 accused have been arrested by the police so far.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the recently surfaced video claiming a Muslim family was beaten in India is misleading as no communal angle has been found in this case. Both parties belong to the same community. Moreover, the viral video dates back to 2020, not a recent one.
