Hindu youth beaten up by Muslims for religious conversion in Aligarh? Read Fact Check

A video has been shared on social media claiming that in Aligarh, UP, an attempt was made to beat a Hindu man Amit to death with iron rods for refusing to convert to Islam. Users also claim that while meeting his friend Zahid, in a Muslim area, Amit was threatened to either convert to Islam or stop coming to the area. While sharing this video, a user named We The People wrote – “Breaking: In Aligarh, UP, a fundamentalist mob of 10-15 tried to beat Hindu man Amit to death with iron rods for refusing to convert to Islam. While meeting his friend Zahid, the radicals wereangry with Amit’s presence in his area. They gave him an ultimatum to either convert to Islam or stop coming to the area. When Amit refused, the mob attacked him with iron rods.”

Fact Check

 DFRAC saw the X handle of Aligarh Police. We found a statement from the jurisdictional officer that said that on March 30, 2024, any allegations of religious conversion or any other such allegations in the dispute between two previously known parties were false and baseless.

Police said that Amit had been living with his partner Zahid for the last 4 years, and he was having a dispute with his neighbors over some issues. Furthermore, police also clarified that Amit had said the matter of ‘religious conversion’ under someone’s influence. Therefore the talk of ‘religious conversion’ is completely false.

Conclusion

It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC that there is no angle of religious conversion in the Aligarh incident. Therefore the claims of social media users are misleading.
