Fact-Check
To investigate the viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, the team found some media reports from Navbharat Times, ETV BharatUP and Bharat Express.
According to a media report by Nav Bharat Times dated Feb 29, 2024, the special meeting of the Municipal Corporation on Wednesday was marred by allegations, abuses and threats. In the meeting, BJP councillor from Sarojini Nagar Second Ward Ramnaresh Rawat directly accused the Municipal Commissioner of corruption. The Municipal Commissioner lost his temper and left the meeting after a long debate.
Moreover, another report by ETV Bharat mentioned: “On being accused of corruption, the Municipal Commissioner lost his temper and scolded the councillor from the floor of the House itself. Within no time, the meeting of the special house turned into a dispute between Municipal Commissioner Inderjit Singh and Councilor Ram Naresh Rawat. Both kept arguing with each other for a long time. After this, when the Municipal Commissioner started leaving the House in the middle, the BJP Councilors tried hard to stop him by convincing him. However, the Municipal Commissioner left everyone aside and went away.
Additionally, a media report from Bharat Express also cited similar facts regarding the above viral video.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the above viral video claiming a Sikh Officer was called Khalistani by a BJP leader is misleading as no such claim has been mentioned in the media reports. The viral video shows a fierce altercation followed by allegations of corruption against the Municipal commissioner.
