Drunk Leopard Turned into Object of Ridicule. Truth Behind Viral Video

A video is making rounds on social media platform X(Twitter) showing some people walking around a leopard

A video is making rounds on social media platform X(Twitter) showing some people walking around a leopard. Users on X(Twitter) are fervently sharing this video and claiming that Leopard seen in this video was drunk.

Sharing this video on X(Twitter), an X account named Crazy Clips wrote: “Leopard snuck into a bootleg liquor production factory, drank some, and forgot he was a leopard”.

In addition to this, another X(Twitter) account by the name of Padhri Wildlife Reserve shared this video and claimed: “The leopard entered a distillery in the village of Taragarh in Maharashtra, India and Then amazingly forgot he was a cheetah. Lesson Beer makes friends where no one is your friend”.

Moreover, other users also shared this video and made similar claims.

Fact-Check

To determine the reality of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found several media reports featuring similar videos.

Media reports by Hindustan Times, ABP news and TOI published in 2023

According to a media report by Hindustan Times, People in the Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh were spotted taking selfies with a sick leopard and even trying to ride on the distressed animal. The incident was recorded on camera and was widely shared on social media, prompting forest officials to take action.

Furthermore, another media report by ABP News also stated similar facts in the context of the above viral video.

 On a related note, a media report by the Times of India revealed that the big cat was found suffering from a highly contagious viral disease called canine distemper.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral video claiming the Leopard seen in the video was drunk is misleading as the leopard wasn’t drunk but found suffering from a highly contagious viral disease called canine distemper.

Hence, the claim of social media users is false.
