Misleading image going viral on X: Is US bombing Syria?
A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a tweet claiming that the US is bombing and occupying her country, Syria while using an image to support her claims. This is in view of recent US operation held on 2ndof February 2024, in retaliation to Iraq’s attack from the week before.
Fact Check
Upon investigating, however, via reverse image search DFRAC finds the image to be falsely used as the picture is neither a recent one, nor related to the US operation held on 2nd February 2024, but is rather almost four years old. The image was photographed on 24th of February 2020 when Israel attacked the Damascus airport and attached with an article published on the azerbaycan24 website.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is confirmed by DFRAC that the viral image claiming US is bombing and occupying Syria to be a misleading image / news.
