Manipur violence video falsely linked to attack on Indian Army

A video is being shared where gunmen can be seen and gunshots are heard in the background.
While sharing the video, the user claimed, “ Indian Army commando camps in Manipur were blown up by freedom fighters, 37 Indian Army commandos were burnt alive”. We found major accounts from Pakistan who were sharing the claim.

Fact Check

We investigated the viral video by putting the keyframes into reverse image search. During the investigation, we found the image matching the video at North East Live TV media house with the headline, “2 killed in fresh violence in Manipur.”

On further investigating the news, we found a media report by NDTV and Times of India where the video matching the claim was reported by the NDTV. They reported about the incident where unidentified gunmen shot dead 2 persons and critically wounded 3 others on the 30 Jan 2024 afternoon attack at a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi-Imphal West district bordering area.

Times of India further reported that the 2 deceased were identified as N Michael (33) and M Khaba (23) while the injured persons were taken to RIMS hospital in Imphal.

Additionally, there are no reports regarding the burning alive of 37 Indian Army commandos in Manipur.
