A distressing visual is being shared on the internet, where a mob can be seen attacking a few individuals in Bihar. Sharing the video, users on the internet are claiming that a group of Hindus fatally attacked four Muslim individuals in Aurangabad, Bihar.
Who shared the claim?
Kavish Aziz, a journalist, shared the video with the claim, “This is Bihar where all the common Muslims were lynched and people stood watching the show. @yadavtejashwi @NitishKumar Whether action will be taken against the criminals or not..” (translated into English)
Another account, Millet Times, also shared the video with the claim, “Case of mob lynching in Aurangabad, Bihar, four Muslim youth were beaten to death by the mob. Five youths, residents of Japla in Jharkhand, were standing in their car at Kesariya turn when there was firing there and then the mob attacked these five, one of them told his name as Mohit Sharma, then the mob left him and the other four youths were killed. He was killed thinking he was a Muslim. These are the names of the killed youth. Arman Ahmed. Mohammad Zahid Raine. Advocate Ansari. Chaman Mansoori.” (translated into English)
Following these accounts, other users also shared the videos with the similar claims.
Fact Check
We investigated the viral video by putting keyframes into reverse search. During the process, we found a media report by multiple media houses. The report by India TV contained the video and reality of the incident.
The media reports mentioned that the incident occurred on 15 Jan 2024 in Aurangabad, Bihar. “The entire matter took place near Tetaria turn of Nabinagar. A dispute arose over taking aside a car parked in front of a hotel. Angered by a minor dispute, the car rider opened fire on the shopkeeper. Another person sitting in the shop was hit by this bullet, due to which he died on the spot. The deceased was identified as Ramsharan Chauhan” as per media reports.
According to the India TV report, the deceased traveling in the car have been identified as Mohammad Arman, Mohammad Anjar, and Mohammad Mujahid, residents of Haider Nagar, Palamu. In contrast, the person sitting in the shop has been identified as Ramashray Chauhan. Mohammad Vakil and Ajit Sharma who were injured in this accident are being treated.
Aurangabad SP Swapna Gautam Meshram also issued the statement where two separate FIRs have been registered.
Conclusion
Thus, it is clear from the fact check, that there was no religious motive for the assault. The incident was over a Parking dispute. Hence the claim is misleading
