India has been actively advocating for the Chabahar port project to enhance regional trade, with a particular focus on improving connectivity to West Asia. But linking to this, a claim is making rounds on the Internet that Iran will limit Indian activity on its Chabahar Port.
What is the claim?
The Twitter account named Iron Clad shared the claim, “Iran says it will limit Indian activity on its Chabahar Port as reports emerge that RAW may be helping MOSSAD in gathering Intel about Iran’s sensitive installations.”
Another user was also found sharing a similar claim.
Fact Check
We investigated the viral claim. Our team checked for the official websites and Twitter handles of Iranian authorities. We found the claim to be fake as no official confirmation was issued by Iranian authorities.
Furthermore, we checked the Twitter handle of the Indian Foreign Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar. He is on an official visit to Tehran. In his tweet, he mentioned, “ Detailed and productive discussion on establishing a long-term cooperation framework with respect to Chabahar port. Also exchanged views on the International North-South Transport Corridor.”
Furthermore, we found media reports by the Times of India and the Iranian news agency Tasnim News Agency. They mentioned – India and Iran signed a deal to jointly develop the strategic Chabahar port during recent S. Jaishankar’s visit to Tehran amid ongoing high-level exchanges between the two countries.
