Fact Check
We investigated the viral claim by using a keyword search. We found a local media report by Israel National News during the process.
According to the report, “The malfunctions reported by consumers throughout the country are not the result of a cyber attack. There was a break in the activity of two production units. This break caused load shedding that caused power outages in several locations”
Another local media, Kan-Israel Public Broadcasting, also tweeted the statement of the CEO of the Electric Company Mier Spiegler. They stated, ”The source of the power outages is the collapse of two production units, at the Rabin station and Eshkol, the cause is still unclear and the fault is under treatment.”
Furthermore, media reports of Times Now and Wion also reported that the Israeli Electric power firm denies cyber attack claims after reports of a major blackout.
Conclusion
Henceforth, from the fact check, it is evident that the claim about the blackout in Israel due to a cyber attack is misleading. It was due to the collapse of two production units as reported by multiple media reports.
