Fact-Check
In DFRAC ‘s initial probe, a similar video were found on the YouTube channel of Telegraph in the form of Shorts, captioning Israel’s Iron Dome intercepts Hamas rockets in Ashkelon. Moreover, the video was uploaded two weeks back. The video’s description read: Israel’s military said it was conducting a “large-scale strike” on targets belonging to Hamas in Gaza on Thursday (October 12), but gave no details. It comes amid speculation the military is preparing to launch a ground offensive into the Palestinian territory.
Following this, we also found another video on Euronews mentioning that a reporter from Euronews named Thimi Samarxhiu saw the dome in action while in Ashkelon. He reported that the city was almost completely empty, except for military personnel and the police. The video was published on October 14, 2023.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral video claiming unprecedented missile attacks occurred in Tel Aviv and Jaffa is false and misleading as it was uploaded two weeks ago after capturing the missile attacks that took place in AsheKelon, located in southern Israel.
