Do Palestinians cry and pretend to suffer by using makeup and chemicals? Read the fact check

Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, the social media is flooded with the videos and news from the war. But among these , multiple misleading and fake news are also shared on the Internet. One video we came across where , social media users are claiming that Palestinians pretend to be victims. They use makeup and chemicals to show themselves as victims.

An account named Preeti Yadav (@cutepreetiji) shared a video and wrote “Welcome to Islamic University of Victim Card. Here you can learn how to do full makeup and cry using chemical and then blame #ISRAEL.  This University has special discount for women and small children”.

Furthermore, @TheAbhishek_IND, @Singodiya21 and other users are also sharing the same post with a similar claim.

FactCheck

To know the truth of the video, DFRAC team converted the video by putting some keyframes and then reverse-searched it on Google. We found that the video was uploaded by @trtworld on 2 March 2017 on YouTube with the caption: “Palestinian Film Industry” featuring makeup artist Mariam Salah.

Trt is a Turkish public broadcast service which uploaded the video with the description, “There are not many film productions in the Gaza Strip. But that didn’t stop makeup artist Mariam Salah from following her dream. She taught herself to make fake blood for Palestinian films breaking into a business traditionally run by men”.

Conclusion

It is clear from the fact check that the viral video is misleading as it is behind the scene footage of actors and makeup artists on a film set. This video is 6 years old.
