Multiple videos started surfacing on internet amidst Israel-Palestine War. Among these, we found a video shared by multiple users and connecting it with Israel-Palestine conflict.
What is the Claim?
We found multiple social media users sharing a video with the caption- “ Several high-profile Israeli Generals captured by Hamas fighters.”
In the video , soldiers are seen taking 3 handcuffed men into the custody.
Fact Check
Our DFRAC team invested the viral claim along with the viral video. On investigation we found that the video’s actual location is from Azerbaijan.
What is the reality of the video?
On searching key frames from the video on Google, we found a news agency named Ntv.az. They published the news with the same video.
The caption of the video read- ‘People who created illegal armed groups and organized their activities in Karabakh were arrested’
What is the news?
As reported by trend news agency of Azerbaijan, The State Security Service of Azerbaijan continued its investigation of a criminal case in connection with terrorist acts committed by illegal Armenian armed groups operating in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
During the investigation, well-founded suspicions have arisen that Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan [former so-called “presidents” of the separatist regime in Karabakh], and David Ishkhanyan [so-called speaker of the “parliament” in Karabakh] were involved in forming and organizing the activities of armed groups not provided for by the legislation of Azerbaijan.
We also gave a closer look at the uniform of the soldiers in the the video and noticed the word ‘DTX ‘ written on their chest-jacket. We searched about the word and found that DTX is a domestic intelligence agency and secret police of Azerbaijan. Furthermore, we observed the flag of Azerbaizaan mounted on the arm of their uniform.
Conclusion
From the fact check it becomes evident that the viral claim is misleading. Henceforth, the video is not about the arrests of Israeli General but of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region.
