A video is peddling amidst the Manipur violence. The video shows a gathering of people where a man is addressing the gathering and a lady is sitting beside him, who is claimed to be Anusuiya Uikey, Governor of Manipur by social media users.
A social media user named GeetV (@geetv79) shared the video. Her tweet read,”Why is the Manipur Governor attending a RSS sponsored meeting spreading hate against the minority Kukis?”Her tweet received 1,635 Reposts and 2,372 Likes on twitter.
Official Account of Kerala Pradesh Congress Sevadal was also found to share the video with the same caption on twitter.
Fact check
DFRAC Team investigated the video and the claim. We found that the gathering was about Kuki narco terrorism. It can be seen that Several Hindutva organisations including Hindu Sena, Bharat Raksha Manch and Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan can be seen on the banner of the event.
We found an account on facebook that covered the event dated 10 August,2023.There was no mention that the Manipur Governor attended the protest.
The lady in the video was found to be Shabnam Jain Kundra, a member of the right-wing organisation Hindu Sena. She is not the governor of Manipur. The 17th governor of Manipur is Anusuiya Uikey appointed by President Droupadi Murmu on 12 February 2023.
We also found the statement released by Manipur police. They shared the tweet that read,” The lady seated is not the Governor of Manipur as has been posted.

Several media houses were also found to publish the article about the statement of Manipur police.
The official account of Cyber Crime Manipur also shared the a tweet and called out the viral claim as misleading.
Raj Bhavan of Manipur in a tweet also called out the claims as wrong and misleading. They wrote, “What has been written in the said tweet about Manipur Governor attending the RSS meeting is completely wrong and misleading. The woman in the video is not the Governor of Manipur, nor has the Governor attended any such meeting.”
Conclusion:
From the DFRAC’s fact check it is apparent that the female sitting in the video is not the Manipur governor, Anusuiya Uikey. Thus the claim made by the the social media users is misleading.
