In recent days, a news cutting has been circulating on social media claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been called the “Last Hope” for the world by the New York Times. The news cutting has a headline that reads “Last, Best Hope of Earth” and “World’s most loved and most powerful leader is here to bless us”, alongside a picture of PM Modi. Upon investigation by DFRAC team, it was found that this news cutting is fake and edited.

The viral news cutting is claimed to have been published in the 26 September 2021 edition of the New York Times. However, when the DFRAC team checked the published edition, there was no such news on the front page. Moreover, upon further investigation, it was found that the news cutting had been edited.
