A video is going viral on social media. In this video it can be seen that a man is being thrashed by a Muslim mob. Social media users are claiming that an RSS worker was taken inside a mosque and killed by a Muslim mob in Kerala.
Sharing this video, a user named Nupur Sharma wrote – “Kerala Muslims took an RSS worker to a mosque and killed him because they are in majority. As soon as they become the majority, the whole country will be like this in a few decades. Courts, constitution, police will not protect you, your property. Your karma.”
At the same time, this video has also been shared by a user named Priya Pandey with the same claim.
Fact Check:
To fact-check the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into multiple frames and reverse-searched them. Our investigation revealed that the viral video has been shared by combining videos of two different incidents. So here we are providing separate fact checks of both the videos.
Fact check of the first video:
In this video a young man is being thrashed by a Muslim mob. Our fact check revealed that this video is not from Kerala but from Muzaffarnagar in UP. This incident is of 2 years old, 5 May 2021. In the context of this video, Hindi newspaper Amar Ujala has published a report.
According to Amar Ujala report, the lineman Anuj had gone to fix the electric fault in Sikri village. Only then a young man named Salman asked him to change the cable. On which Anuj said not to change the cable without JE’s permission. Meanwhile, there was a dispute and the crowd present there thrashed Anuj.
Consequently, in this context, we also found a relevant tweet from Muzaffarnagar Police. In which it has been told in the context of the incident that police have registered charges against 7 named and 10 to 12 unknown accused under relevant sections.
Fact check of the second video:
Our investigation has revealed that the second video is not from India but from the Latin American country of Venezuela. This video has been uploaded on YouTube channel named Television Guyana Evening News on 19 January 2018. In which it has been told that a minor resident of Guyana was murdered by slitting his throat.
Conclusion:
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video has been linked to two different and old incidents. The first video is from Muzaffarnagar, UP, which is 2 years old. And the second video is from Venezuela, which is of 5 years old incident. Hence, the claim of social media users is wrong.
