From social media to mainstream media, a sensational news is taking rounds in which it is claimed that dead girls are being raped in Pakistan. In such a situation, the people there, are putting padlocks on their graves.

To verify the viral claim, the DFRAC team first reverse-searched the image. During this we got a report from News Nation. The report states that the viral picture is not of Pakistan but of a cemetery in Hyderabad, India.
The report pointed out that last year, the person who saw the grave with the padlock at the cemetery in Madannapet area of Hyderabad’s old city visited the same place to post photos and pictures on social media. The man in the video revealed that it was the grave of his friend’s mother who had died last year and after burying her there, her family members locked it to prevent any other deceased from being buried at the same place.
The muezzin of Masjid-e-Salar Mulk, where the cemetery is located, said he saw some people burying the dead bodies in old graves. To avoid such a thing, the family members of the deceased put iron grill and locked it. He said a grill was also placed over the grave as it was very close to the entrance and the family members of the deceased wanted to ensure that no one steps on it.
