With the start of the Arrest campaign of AmritPal Singh, the chief of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, there has been a flood of fake and misleading news on social media.
Meanwhile, it was claimed that the Punjab Police abducted Papalpreet Singh and his family members. A user named Prabhsharanbir tweeted and claimed that Bhai Papalpreet Singh was abducted by the Punjab Police along with his wife, mother, and several other family members. One of the most heinous aspects of the Indian security apparatus and it’s shamelessness in targeting women.
A verified user named Samar Singh Kohli who is from Australia retweeted his tweet and wrote that- “Indian democracy is showing its true colors..”
Fact Check:
To verify the viral claim, the DFRAC team first looked at all the news published about Papalpreet Singh on Google. But we did not find any such news, which shows that the Punjab Police has taken any action against the family members of Papalpreet Singh.
However, we found a report by India Today. In which a woman has been arrested by the Haryana Police and handed over to the Punjab Police. According to the report, the woman’s name is Baljit Kaur. The woman is alleged to have given shelter to the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief and his associates at her home in the Kurukshetra district.
Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria was quoted by the news agency, “We have apprehended the woman, Baljit Kaur, who had given shelter to Amritpal and his associate Papalpreet Singh at her house in Shahabad on Sunday. The woman was handed over to the Punjab Police.”
Apart from this, we also found a tweet from Punjab Police where, it was said that false claims are being made by various pretenders on social media to destabilize the peace and harmony of #Punjab. This is a false claim made to gain limelight. We advise all of you to stay away from rumour-mongers and verify news before sharing it on social media platforms. #FakeDiKhairNahi
conclusion:
Therefore, it is clear from the fact check of DFRAC that the claim of Papalpreet Singh and his family members being abducted by the Punjab Police is false.
