Ever since Punjab Police launched hunt for Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, a flood of misinformation and fake news has been unleashed by mischief makers based in Canada and Pakistan.
In the latest mischief, Khalistan supporters have used social media app TikTok and an account named @tegkhalsedi has shared an audio in support of Amritpal.
In this audio, Delhi Police’s Mahaveer Jat and Sasastra Seema Bal (SSB)’s jawan Dhanajay Yadav are reportedly conversing about situation in Punjab. In the tape, Jat asked Yadav about situation in Punjab and Amritpal. Yadav responds to it saying that the government has turned Punjab into Kashmir. He also quotes people’s opinion that Amritpal is a good man and that he saving Pun jab youths from drug addiction. He also says that the police may kill Amritpal in an encounter any time soon.
Khalistani supporters have also shared this audio on YouTube as well. This video has also been shared by Khalistani supporters in UK, Canada and Australia.
Fact Check
To know the truth of the viral audio, the DFRAC team first checked whether SSB has been deployed in Punjab. But, it didn’t find any news that could confirm that SSB has been put into action in Punjab after emergence of Amritpal.
On the other hand, the DFRAC found an Indian Express report that informed about Home Ministry asking BSF and SSB to be alert along borders in Punjab because there were intelligence inputs that Amritpal could cross the borders.
It is also noteworthy here that SSB has been given responsibility of security at Indian borders with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Its jawans have been deployed at border posts in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Conclusion:
So, it is clear from the DFRAC fact-check that the viral audio is fake because SSB jawans can’t be deployed in Punjab. The security in Punjab is sole duty of Punjab Police.
