Recently, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi was honored with the Best Parliamentarian of the Year award.
In this regard, the official Twitter account of UP Congress posted a picture of MP Asaduddin Owaisi and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi and claimed that Asaduddin Owaisi was honored by the senior BJP leader. “This much is enough to tell that… ‘What is this relationship called…?'”
In the picture, Owaisi is seen standing with Murli Manohar Joshi with the award in his hands.
Fact Check
To verify the viral picture, the DFRAC team searched some keywords on Google. During this we found a report of Lokmat. In the report, Asaduddin Owaisi can be seen being honored by the country’s former President Ramnath Kovind as the chief guest.
It was also mentioned in the report that the Parliamentary Awards function was organized in Delhi by the Lokmat itself.
Moreover, we also found a video of the program on the official YouTube account of AIMIM party, where it can be clearly seen that Asaduddin Owaisi was honored by the former President Ramnath Kovind. Although, Murli Manohar Joshi was also present in the program.
Conclusion
Hence, it is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that the viral picture is misleading. Because Asaduddin Owaisi was honored by former President Ramnath Kovind and not by Murli Manohar Joshi, although he was present at the event.
