A distressing video is currently circulating on social media, depicting the aftermath of a flyover collapse. The footage shows numerous cars trapped under the weight of the debris, causing concern among viewers. The location of the incident is being widely reported as Thane, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

By sharing the video a social media user captioned: “ It’s in Thane just now.”

Fact Check:

To know the reality of the viral claim the team of DFRAC first convert the video into several keyframes and afterward did the reverse image search of those keyframes which led us to the report of ndtv 16 May 2018  with the headline: “18 Dead as under-construction flyover collapses in Varanasi.”

Apart from this report, many other media houses have also covered the incident.

According to reports, two pillars of the flyover had collapsed in the city’s Cantt area, bringing a huge slab of concrete down, and crushing cars and local buses under it. Many of those trapped were reported to be laborers who were working on the flyover.

Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force NDRF were deployed to lead rescue operations. Eight cranes were used to lift the debris and a crane with a 200-tonne lifting capacity was also put into action in the rescue operation.

Conclusion:

It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC and reviewing multiple media reports, it has become apparent that the viral video being circulated online is not related to Thane as claimed by social media users. The video is actually from Varanasi, and it is also quite old. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
