After the incident took place the Yeti airlines flight from Kathmandu to the tourist town of Pokhara crashed on landing before catching fire. Several media houses shared an old picture of a plane crash as recent.

By sharing this picture ANI Digital has captioned: “ passenger aircraft crashes on the runway of Pokhara Airport in Nepal.”

Fact Check:

To Fact check the viral picture the team of DFRAC did a reverse image search and found a similar picture on reuters which was uploaded on September 28, 2012, with the sub-heading- “ A Nepalese police officer instructs police personnel at the crash site of a Dornier aircraft, owned by private firm Sita Air, in Kathmandu.”

At the same time, many other social media houses had also covered this report of the 2012 Nepal airplane crash-

The reports done by several media houses mentioned about a plane crash near NEPAL’s capital Kathmandu has killed all 19 people on board including seven Britons. The plane was operated by the private airline Sita Air. The twin-engine propeller-driven Dornier aircraft came down immediately after it took off. All 19 passengers of the Sita Air plane have died.

Moreover, another college is given to know the difference between the 2012 Sita Airlines and 2023 Yeti Airlines crashes.

Conclusion:

It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC and different media houses reports that the viral picture shared by several media houses is of the 2012 private airline Sita Airlines not of the recent airplane crash of Yeti Airlines. Therefore, the claim made by media houses is misleading.
