Fake messages getting viral regarding the Covid XBB variant. Read Fact Check

As rising cases of Covid-19 in China, several fake messages about SARS-CoV-2 variants are circulated in India. According to the message, the newly discovered Xbb subvariant of omicron is 5 times more noxious it has more impermanence rate than the Delta variant.

The reality about XBB-

According to the World Health Organization ( WHO ), current data does not suggest XBB is more deadly than omicron, which is more homicidal than Delta.

In a statement dated October 27, 2022, the World Health Organization said the Body technical advisory group on SARS- COV-2 virus evolution ( TAG-VE ) recently discussed the potential risk of some omicron variants. specifically XBB and its sub-lineages, and BQ.1 and its sub-lineages. 

XBB the name for the sub Lineages of XBB is a recombination of BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75 sublineages. The global prevalence of XBB is 1.3 percent. The variant has been detected in 35 countries

Fact Check:

To know the reality of the viral claim the team of DFRAC first searched the Tweet of the Ministry of Health.  The Tweet stated: “ The message is circulating in some whats app groups regarding Xbb variant of #COVID19. The message is #FAKE and #Misleading.”
