Did Rahul Gandhi Question the significance of the Hindi language? Read- Fact Check

A collage of video is getting viral on social media sites. On the left side of the video, it can be seen and heard that Rahul Gandhi questioned the significance of the Hindi language around the English Nations, and on the right side, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a speech in Hindi at United Nations General Assembly.

Social media users are sharing this video and claiming that Rahul Gandhi questioned the significance of the Hindi language and on the other hand PM Narendra Modi amplified the country’s honor by speaking at the United Nations.

By sharing this picture a user named Veer Bahadur Chauhan Veeru captioned: “ The difference is clear on one side @RahulGandhi is questioning the Hindi language in India. On the other hand PM @narendramodi increases the country’s respect by speaking Hindi in UN” ( English Translation)

Fact Check:

To know the reality of the viral video the team of DFRAC did some special keyword searches regarding Rahul Gandhi’s speech and found the video on the official YouTube channel of the Congress Party on 19 December 2022. The heading: “ Rahul Gandhi full speech I Bharat Jodo Yatra I Rajasthan I Alwar, I Rahul Gandhi.”

The whole video is around 22 minutes and 52 seconds. From 7:46  to 10: 46 it can be heard that “ BJP leaders speak against the English language, but their children, be it of Amit Shah, their Chief Ministers, MLA’s and MP’s. Goes to an English medium school. But they speak against English because they don’t want the children of poor, farmers and  laborers to learn English.”

From 9:36  Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying: “ I’m not saying don’t read Hindi, read Tamil, Marathi should be read and all the language around India should be read. If you want to talk to the people of the rest of the world, be at the citizens of America, to the people of Japan, England then Hindi will not be beneficial, Only English language will work there.”

 On further searches, we also found the video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the official YouTube channel of  PM Narendra Modi. The heading states: “ PM Modi’s address to the United Nations General Assembly ( Hindi Version)

Conclusion:

It is clear from the fact check of DFRAC that the viral claim made by social media users regarding Rahul Gandhi’s questions on the significance of the Hindi language is half-edited and Misleading.
