A video is becoming increasingly viral on social media. It can be seen in this video that a young man is being thrashed fiercely by the mob. It is alleged that the young man was trying to kill his girlfriend when people reached the spot, caught him, and beat him fiercely. In the video, the young man’s girlfriend can also be seen in a pool of blood.
Users sharing this video are claiming that a Jihadi youth was going to slit the throat of a Hindu girl after ensnaring her in a love trap. Sharing this video, a user wrote- “His masculinity is shown only in women, children, and herds”.
At the same time, this video has also been shared by another user. This user captioned – “This is a Jihadi who trapped the girl in a live trap for his Jihad and came here to kill the girl by mixing her food and drink with. Now how much one can explain?
Fact Check:
To verify the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into a few frames. After this reverse search was done. We found a report published on the website of the newspaper ‘Prabhat Khabar’. This report was published three years ago on 16 September 2019.
According to this report, the name of the accused youth is Arvind Kumar son of Mahendra Saab. It has been told in the report that Arvind is a school friend of hers. Both had gone to visit Patratu Valley and Dam. While returning, there was a dispute between the two regarding something. After this, Arvind stopped the bike near a tree saying that it is sunny and both of them sat under the shade of the tree. Meanwhile, till the student could understand anything, Arvind stabbed her in the neck with a knife. The girl student somehow ran away from there making noise and came onto the road. When people passing by saw the girl making a noise, they stopped and inquired. The girl student told all the things to the people, after which the people immediately informed the police. After this, the Pithoria police reached the spot and arrested the accused youth.
Conclusion:
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that the incident is 3 years old. In the incident, the youth who is being described as a Muslim belongs to the Hindu community and his name is Arvind Kumar. There is no communal angle in this incident. Hence the claim being made by social media users is false.
