In this image PM Modi’s and RBI former governor Raghuram Ranjan can be seen along with the lines , “We did demonetisation after extensive consultation with the Reserve Bank of India,”- PM Modi “I was RBI Governor during the time of demonetisation. RBI was not asked to make a single decision on demonetisation,” – Raghuram Ranjan
The caption on this reads, “#Modi & his convincing lies #101LiesOfModi.”
Fact Check:
To investigate the viral claim, the Team firstly checked the then governor of RBI by simple searching on Google and according to the website, the name came out to be f Dr Urjit Patel that the Modi government rolled out the demonetization of its ₹500, and ₹1000 currency notes on the night of November 8, 2016.
We then searched for Raghunathan’s say on this claim by simply searching some keywords on google and found many reports on this in which he had cleared that he was asked by the government , but he gave the answer very orally.
Conclusion:
Thus, it is clear that the claim by YSR is false as at the time of demonitization the governor was Dr Urjit Patel and not Raghuram Ranjan.
Claim Review: RBI was not asked to make a single decision on demonetisation.
