Old Video of Malikarjun Karge is getting viral – Read Fact Check

After nearly 24 years Malikarjun Karge becomes the first person outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to be the president of the party. He was also Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha from 16 February 2021 to 01 October 2022 and was the Former Minister of Railways and Minister of Labour and Employment in the Government of India.

After winning the congress Presidential elections a video of karge is going viral on social media sites, where he can be heard criticizing Modi and Sanatan Dharma. People are claiming the video to be of recent times.

He states, “ if like this Modi ji will get more power in this country then again the country will see the rise of Sanatan Dharma and RSS.”

Many people are sharing the video under different captions on social media sites.

A user on Facebook writes, “’Modi Ji’s victory is the victory of Sanatan Dharma’ My best wishes to Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji for the new post.” (English Translation)

Another user too shared the same video under a different caption.

Fact Check:

To investigate the viral video DFRAC team ran a keyword search and found no recent interview in any of the mainstream media about this statement of karge.

Then for further investigation with the help of the InVid tool, we converted the video into different keyframes and found a similar video uploaded 3 years ago on a YouTube channel of UP Tak and ABP ANADA.

Conclusion:

The video getting viral on social media is 3 years old and not of recent times, Hence the video is getting viral with the misleading claim.
