Fat Check: Did BJP organize a parade of people carrying guns in Gwalior?

أخبار العالم الإسلامي(@muslim2day) shared a video on their Twitter handle of the claim that India’s ruling party BJP is making their supporter hold guns. The video was shared with the caption, “The ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a parade in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, the party made its supporters carry guns!!” {English Translation}

Further, Arabic Hashtag #الهند #تداعي_الأمم #نصرة_مسلمي_الهند (#India #Corruption of Nations #Supporting MuslimsinIndia) and #IndianMuslimsUnderAttack were used.

The comment section was filled up with provoking communal tweets.

Fact Check

Using InVID tool, the DFRAC team converted the video into different keyframes. On reverse image search of those keyframes we found that, the reality of the video is very different as portrayed by this account.

Amar Ujala covered this incident with the title, “Gwalior: supporters waving guns in front of expelled BJP leader Pritam Lodhi, licenses will be suspended.” {English Translation}

Supporters of Pritam Lodhi, who was expelled from the BJP for his objectionable remarks against Brahmins were displaying arms at a program in Gwalior. Furthermore, in the video they were heard chanting in Hindi which can be translated into English as “we don’t have to oppress anyone, we don’t even have to endure torture, and also, we don’t have to witness tyranny. Today we swear that if someone is oppressed, we will fight it. “

Conclusion

The rally was not organized by India’s ruling party BJP. Moreover, there is no Hindu-Muslim angle in the incident. Therefore, the claim of أخبار العالم الإسلامي(@muslim2day) is wrong.
