Fact check:
To verify the fact of the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into frames using the Invid tool. After that, we did a reverse search of frames. The team found this video uploaded on a Youtube channel called Helping Humanity. The video was uploaded on September 8, 2017.
The video titled- “This is the African style of celebrating Ganesh festival. Sri Ganesh Temple, Entebbe, Uganda” is given. According to the description of this video, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated in Uganda.
Similarly, this video was also posted on Twitter by actor Anupam Kher on September 13, 2018. Anupam Kher also described the video as from Shree Ganesh Mandir, Entebbe, Uganda. He wrote- “This is amazing! #Ganesh festival was celebrated with chants of Shri Ganesh Temple #GanpatiBappaMorya in Entebbe, Uganda. Listen to the sound of the drum and the expressions on the faces of the people who played it. #GanpatiBappaMorya #MoryaRaBappaMoryaRe”
However, a year-old video was posted by Anupam Kher in 2018, as the video celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi is from 2017.
Conclusion:
It is clear from the Fact check of DFRAC that the viral video is from the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, which was celebrated at the Shri Ganesh Temple in Entebbe, Uganda in 2017. Which social media users are sharing as South Africa. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
