After the change of power in Bihar, there has been a flood of various types of misleading and fake news on social media. Users keep making new claims every day on social media regarding Bihar government. A similar claim is being made that in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav needs only 2 MLAs to become the CM. If 4 MLAs of opposition resign, Tejashwi Yadav can become CM.
A user named PN Rai wrote – “Big “played” in Bihar. Tejashwi needs the support of only 2 MLAs to become the CM. Or 4 MLAs of the opposition to resign from the Legislative Assembly. it’s not difficult. Then the old account equals to Paltu uncle.”(Hindi Translation)
Fact Check:
To fact-check the claim that is going viral, we first checked the fact that does Tejashwi Yadav really need the support of only 2 MLAs to become the CM? We did some keyword searches on Google. We got a report from ‘Amar Ujala’. According to this report, RJD is the largest party in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. RJD has 79 MLAs. After this BJP has 77 MLAs.
On the other hand, JDU has 45, Congress 19, Left 16, HAM 4, AIMIM 1 and Independent 1 MLA. As the RJD, Congress and Left parties were involved in the grand alliance before Nitish Kumar, their total number in the assembly becomes 114. While the magic figure of majority is 122, that is, the RJD alliance is short of 8 MLAs.
If we look at the figure of RJD alone, it will need 43 MLAs to reach the magic figure of 122.
Conclusion:
Our fact check is proving that RJD alone will need 43 MLAs to reach power, while except Nitish Kumar, the parties of the Grand Alliance, RJD, Congress and Left will need 8 MLAs. Hence the claim being made by social media users is false.
