After CM Nitish Kumar broke the alliance with The BJP and formed a government with the RJD-Congress in Bihar, there is a lot of fake and misleading information spead on social media against the leaders of Bihar and the Maha Gathbandhan. Social media users keep posting fake and misleading information every day.
In the same series, a photo of Bihar’s Forest and Environment Minister Tej Pratap Yadav is going viral on social media. In this photo, Tej Pratap Yadav is seen wearing a gown (dress) at the gathering ceremony of a university. Users who shared this photo are claiming that Tej Pratap Yadav has been given a doctorate degree by Takshashila University-Bihar.
One user wrote- “Extremely happy to inform that Lalu Yadav’s son Shri Tej Pratap Yadav (10th failed) has received a “Doctorate” degree from Takshashila University, Bihar. It is a matter of great honor for all Indians. Congratulations to Dr. Tej Pratap Yadav. Such coincidence can happen only in India.
Fact check:
DFRAC did a reverse image search to fact-check the viral photo of Tej Pratap Yadav. The team found this photo posted on Tej Pratap Yadav’s official Twitter account on February 11, 2017, with the caption – “Attended the third gathering of IGIMS today and all the passed students have been given degree certificates and gold medals with their own hands”.
On further analysis in this context, DFRAC found a video on the RJD Bihar channel on YouTube. The video is titled “Tej Pratap Yadav in #igims on the occasion of 3rd gathering 2017”. In this video, Tej Pratap Yadav can be seen giving gold medals and degrees to the students.
Conclusion:
It is clear from this Fact check that the viral photo of Tej Pratap Yadav is 5 years old. Tej Pratap Yadav has not been given a doctorate degree, but Tej Pratap Yadav was attending the gathering of IGIMS. Therefore, the claim of social media users is fake.
