On social media, a video of a carrying flares has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “300,000 Polish Patriots on the streets to declare Poland is CHRISTIAN.”
Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found a media report from ‘The New York Times’ published on 11 Nov, 2017 stated “Thousands of far-right Nationalists marched through Poland’s capital, Warsaw, on Saturday, waving red-and-white Polish flags and carrying flares. The crowd at the march, which coincided with Poland’s Independence Day, commemorating the reinstatement of sovereignty at the end of World War I, far outnumbered those at official government events earlier in the day.”
Furthermore, we also found a post on Facebook page of ‘Notes from Poland’ uploaded on 11 Nov, 2017 with caption “Nationalist Independence Day march in front of Warsaw’s iconic Palace of Culture and Science.”
Moreover, we also found a similar video on the YouTube channel of ‘Hungary Ultrasliberi’ uploaded on 15 Nov, 2017 with the caption :“Polish Anthem at the Independence March 2017.11.11.”
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video was from 11 Nov, 2017 Independence day not from 300,000 polish Patriots on the streets to declare Poland is CHRISTIAN. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
