On social media, a video showing a young woman with scotch tape on her mouth and her hand tied behind has been shared by users with claim that “Hindu Women in Bangladesh! They are being R*ped and Killed! Hindus are staring at a Genocide in Bangladesh These images and videos make you feel so helpless!”.
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found a video on a Facebook page of Jagannath University (JNU Short Stories) stating “The girl is an ordinary student of Jagannath University 2021-22 academic year. This video is a scene from a drama recital to protest against Avantika’s suicide a few days ago!”. The video was uploaded on 26 July 2024.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that this video is of the protest at Jagannath University showing a scene from a drama recital to protest against Avantika’s suicide. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
